"I met the Yellow-Shadow by the small stones. I keep bothering people with my water walking, but I love it. I don't think it annoyed him too much, though-- he said I was doing a good job! I couldn't believe it when he said it was impressive. I don't think anyone I didn't really know has ever looked at me and seen... me. It's always my dad, or sometimes my mom. He recognized me as the Silver-Fire's son, but that wasn't all he saw in me! It was nice to be myself...
He saved me from a hawk! I'd never seen one before-- I didn't even notice it, but he just suddenly knew it was there. It was amazing; I can see why he's a deputy. I tried to help when it kept attacking, but I don't think I did much. He managed to kill it, but he said we shouldn't eat it. He brought me back to Water Tribe territory and told me to be more careful when I'm out alone.
... I know he said that, and I plan to be. But-- don't tell him-- I went back to the hawk. A few crows were around it, but I chased them off and took a bunch of its feathers. They're hidden under my bedding. Once I get better at crafting, I'm going to make him something. To thank him for saving me."
